Using Konqy as an editor???   I suppose it's possible.

But in any event, you tried to change the file as a user, and the file 
belongs
to root.

Get yourself a console session and edit it there.

Thanks, Bruce.  I did notice that when I placed the cursor in the line 
to edit the file,
the title bar changed from Konqueror to Kate (the KDE text editor), so 
it should work if
the system recognizes me as root.  I may have to do this from kdesu.  I 
will bang away at it
today and see what I find.
