Basically: if they aren't in the same package, they probably won't
work.  RAM is just such a high-speed affair that it doesn't have any
room for any kind of failure in it.  Once I had a machine that
wouldn't boot because someone hadn't properly secured the RAM in their
slots.  They were locked in, but the builder hadn't finished off by
whacking them down with the butt end of a screwdriver to secure them.
Crazy...
