An ugly problem with postgresql

After my previous hassles with postgresql installation were resolved and the
system seemed to be running properly I ran into a *very* nasty problem that
flies in the face of acceptable practice of MySQL and presumably Access:

It seems that the COPY command prohibits any null field input to any numeric
type column.

That pretty well wipes out any chance of installing a database with over
500,000 lines input data.

My only comment is that any column that is not qualified as "NOT NULL" shall
accept a null input field regardless of type. Period. No debate.

Sorry, this is not a kubuntu problem. Just venting.
