Sure. Use an Intel part -- although that needs to be integrated at the
moment. They are talking about discrete cards again, which is great,
but not for some time.
Intel produce the only current 3D hardware that has completely open
specs.
Otherwise you get to choose your poison:
You can buy an older ATI card -- anything up to the R300 core (X800)
should be fine and is supported by open drivers. Not the fastest thing
in the world but probably fine for most use.
You can buy an NVIDIA card and wait for the reverse engineered driver to
catch up, living with the pain of a binary driver until then.
You can buy a more modern ATI card and hope that their being owned by
AMD, a hugely Linux friendly company and direct competitor to Intel,
results in a change on their specification policy.
