hosts file

if i want to add known hosts that i connect to on a frequent basis, i add
known hosts to /etc/hosts, correct? or is there another file?

also, it's been a while, so do i just add this below my localhost info like
so...

10.0.0.1 host host.name.com

or

10.0.0.1 hostname
