Thanks Michael, Daniel left me some strong clues on how to learn how to
tweak udev. But since I don't have the time to master udev right now, I
tucked a script to chown them in /root/bin/fix_dev, then did a:
ln -s /root/bin/fix_dev /etc/rcS.d/S51fix_dev

This seams to have solved the problem

Thanks for reminding me that I could roll my own init commands even if
debian systems don't use an rc.local script.
