An interesting X11 problem/solution...

Long story short, my wife's computer was working fine, and then I shut it off.  
Powered back up, KDM came up fine, but every time she tried to log in, it 
went poof.

I spent a good long while dicking around before I discovered she had run smack 
out of disk space.  I freed some space, and voilà.

I just thought that was interesting.  I've seen that kind of thing before, but 
in this age of huge hard drives, that idea wasn't remotely at the top of my 
list.
