AMD deciding _now_ what to do about Linux

I'm averaging every two years, because these new cheap computers don't have 
longevity for crap.  Especially AMDs so far, which is actually why I went 
Intel the time before last.  I had three Thunderbirds drop dead one after the 
other, after 2-3 years of service.  Sad.  Meanwhile my old pre-MMX Pentium 
166 would still run fine if I could be bothered to dig up an AT power supply 
for it.  (I paid more for that Pentium 166 CPU by itself than both of my last 
computers put together though.  It's a numbers game.)
