Version 2.2.8. I downloaded the deb file from the Gramps site,
gramps_2.2.8-1ubuntu1_all.deb and tried to install it. I get an error
message about the wrong version of python and have to enter 'exit' to
finish. The new version of Gramps seems to run OK, but if I look at it
in Adept Manager it is marked as Broken. When there are any updates to
run Adept will also remove Gramps automatically and I have to
re-install.

What is so frustrating is that I *do* have the required version of
Python available on my computer.
