"To Kubuntu or not to kubuntu" is very simple question - because it is 
distributed as LiveCD - you can load your PC from CD, look, try, and if you 
liked it, install.

it's not very hard, just find applications you used under Windows or their 
analogs (which sometimes better). 

First time, do not remove windows installation.
