kdesu and 'edit as root'

Feisty:

I've noticed that after a while (don't know exactly - could be hours or days) when 
I try to 'kdesu' or 'Actions > edit as root' on a file using konqueror, I get a 
bouncing icon but then nothing.
If I try 'kdesu' fom the cmd line I get:

nigel at nigels:~$ kdesu konqueror
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 169

   Minor opcode:  3
   Resource id:  0x0
Failed to open device

But if I logout and then login again everything works as it should.

How can I get it to work again without having to logout and login again?
