No mail from cron on Feisty

Fresh install of Ubuntu Studio/Feisty. I'm using postfix now instead of exim,
because it came that way out of the box. I tried to dpkg-reconfigure it and
tell it to send root mail to my user, etc., but I haven't heard a peep out of
cron since this upgrade. I have no idea if any of it is running or not.
Either none of the crontabs are running, or I'm not getting any mail. I
should be getting one message every minute right now, but all I hear out of
my inbox is "Hello in there? ello in there? ello in there? elo inere?"
I've never futzed around with local mail stuff much, and I have no use for any
of it except getting my daily status reports of how the nightly jobs went.
As such, I don't have much to go on ferreting out the cause of this problem,
and fixing it.
Pointers appreciated.
