Speeding up KDE -- More Help Needed

Personalty, I'd vote for more RAM or Xubuntu.
As has been pointed out, you could also try another distro with KDE and
see if that speeds things up.
On a related note (I doubt this would make any difference) but you could
also try removing all the Kubuntu customization0ons and go with vanilla
KDE. I don't know that this would make any difference, but it's worth a
shot.
One reason I mention that is because that's what I do myself. But I do
it because I don't care for what Kubuntu does to KDE.
And there are plenty of distros out there with KDE that aren't as "high
maintenance" as Slack. I've (recently) used Fedora 7, Debian Lenny,
OpenSUSE and Mandriva 2007. I can't vouch for one over the other speed
wise though.
