Where can I put my icons so they appear in KDEs

The other day I was trying to create a special folder icon, and while I
found many folder icons, I couldn't manage to track down the specific one
that's used for the folders on my desktop.

I was, however, surprised to find how easy it was with KIconEdit to merge
two icons.
