right alt key and kde

Your right Alt key is probably an AltGr key. It's often used as a modifier.
If I want to type in Spanish, complete with accents, I hold down the AltGr
key, press the ';' key, let them both go, then press 'e' to get 'é', for
example. Yours might be set up for something similar.
