Since when is this the goal of Ubuntu, or any Linux for that matter? One of
the attributes of being non-commercial is that making money is not the goal
so you don't have to compete.
I thought the goal of Ubuntu is to provide low cost computing to parts of the
world where commercial software is prohibitive. I thought a parallel goal
was to produce a Debian-based system with frequent, cutting edge updates. I
think Ubuntu is succeeding on both of these goals.
