even after formatting data CAN be mostly recovered. Foermating is NOT a major problem. I don't know any utility that would do that in Linux, but in Windoze I use GetDataBack and  R-Studio NE. Just say the word and I will gladly upload both to Rapidshare so you can get them from there. Just maybe run them from a different hard drive.
