SNIP
this is SO true...and unforseen problems arise. To use our equipment
(all in ones and photo printers) I have had to compile hplip. It works
with the make install but if I use checkinstall it breaks and breaks
gutenprint too! We use dapper because of the LTS. We use these machines
to work not play.
nuisance but I needed it. As we do some web work I decided I better use
Firefox2 also.
BUT: as we already use wine and crossover for other win32 apps we need
rather than install the linux version we simply use the win32 version'
FWIW with Realplayer 10 and Windows Media Player 10 (in crossover) this
has also solved some other headaches for us.
I also have OOo2.1 in a crossover bottle eliminating the need to mess
with the dapper distro setup.
I DID add a newer version of OOo in linux form in breezy though, and had
no big troubles.
OH and if you decide to do as I have above you need to add the wine
repos to your sources.list. The version of wine for dapper is unable to
handle the graphics for firefox win32.
