How to modify "System places" menu

Yes, it is. And this is soooo simple that it took me months to find it!

First, you create a folder in your home directory. In my case, it is 
called "Frequently Used Apps" and uses the icon "package_favourite". Then you 
drag&drop icons into it. For applications, you can use the applications view 
of Konqueror (URL: applications:/). To (maybe) save some space or at the very 
least to benefit from APT upgrade of the .desktop files, be sure to create 
symbolic links (by drag&dropping with Ctrl+Shift). Finally, drag&drop the 
folder to kicker and something like a Gnome drawer is created.
