Installing Kububtu on USB drive

Assuming a usb connected hard drive (as opposed to a thumb/flash drive),
the trick is to have the bios set to boot from the usb drive first.
During the install, install grub to the mbr of the usb drive, not the
main hard drive. Then, to boot to Linux, just make sure the usb drive is
plugged in and powered up before starting the machine.
I believe this amount of control over the grub installation would
require using the Alternate CD instead of the Desktop (Live) CD.
