Linux freezes randomly

Hi,
My kubuntu seems to work right, but sometimes it just gets frozen. There are
two places where it can freeze: most normally when booting. But sometimes it
happens when I'm already in KDE. First music stops to sound. Then only mouse
moves but the rest of Xorg is frozen (it doesn't answer to mouse clicks, nor
keyboard, not even mouse overs) and finally mouse freezes. This could be
something related to ATI propietary driver though, I don't know.
It annoys me badly that it freezes in the boot process, today I had to try to
boot 5 times before it wanted to boot. It's at the beguinning of the boot
process. I've seen in /var/log/messages this error repeated:
Feb 25 19:44:02 sinpalo kernel: [17179579.908000] hda: task_no_data_intr:
status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
Feb 25 19:44:02 sinpalo kernel: [17179579.908000] hda: task_no_data_intr:
error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }
Feb 25 19:44:02 sinpalo kernel: [17179579.908000] ide: failed opcode was: 0x37
Though I must say that this doesn't correspond to a "false boot try" because
when it gets frozen, the kernel output doesn't *ever* get logged
in /var/log/messages.
I started suspecting that the HD is the problem, but this is a (2 months) new
laptop (Samsung R40)... I've installed smartmon-tools and in Conveyance and
Short test no errors appeared. This is the output of smartctl -a /dev/hda:

One strange thing is that Multi_Zone_Error_Rate, Raw_Read_Error_Rate and
Hardware_ECC_Recovered change all the time and some of them should be
normally 0. At least that's the case in the example outputs I've read over
the net, but I don't know much at all about this.
I should mention that this have been happening since I got my hands in the
computer and I don't have windows installed to contrast if it's a software or
hardware problem, nor I have much time/space/will to install it so I'd like
to stick with ubuntu as much as I can.
Thanks for your time,
Eduardo Robles Elvira.
