gtk-qt-engine renders root applications half user themed and half root themed

As you can see from the attached picture, gtk-qt-engine is rendering
Synaptic partly with my user them (the dark parts) and partly with the root
theme. I can make it blend with my user theme by kdesu'ing to kcontrol and
setting the root theme the same as the user theme, but I actually like my
root applications to be themed differently so I can when a GUI app is
running as root.

Has anybody seen this before? Any ideas?
