Sound problems with recent edgy kernels

Has anyone else had problems with sound on recent edgy kernels? I
have a dual opteron (64 bit) system that was working fine, but then
recent kernels (the 2.6.17 series, I think) have not been working with
my audio.

I have two sound cards, and I don't really care which I use.
Currently they are both turned on in the BIOS. As you can see below,
lspci sees them and the drivers are loaded, but no sound comes out of
either. If I go back to booting an old kernel 2.6.15-27 works) I can
get sound, but nothing from the new kernels.

I can't find any error messages. Amarok and artsd seem completely
happy, I just don't hear anything.

Anyone have any clues to share?

Thanks,

Michael
