Yet another kmail mystery

Is kernel suspend or a change of networks involved here?  I haven't heard of
this with POP, but it's known that if you're connected to an IMAP server
and your IP changes, KMail will get blocked.  It's a long shot, as I assume
this is specifically because IMAP servers tend to hold connections open,
but it's a possibility.
