I just got the notify... I checked it with aptitude and the reason it's 
broken is because the .deb depends are wrong.  It's listed as an 
optional upgrade.

Specifically:
i   --\ linux-image-generic
<snip>
Source Package: linux-meta
--\ Depends
   --- linux-image-2.6.17.11-generic (UNAVAILABLE)

Since you can't install it, you shouldn't have to worry, but now you'll 
have that icon in your tray for a while.  This is one of the downsides 
to the update notifier.  You can of course kill the notifier.

It's not a fatal error, but annoying nonetheless.

Perhaps it's time to go chat...
