I have to agree with the spirit of the rant.  Hardware detection in Debian 
(and derivatives) has gotten quite good of late, but X11 is still a pain.  
Move your hard drive to a new computer, install a new video card, install a 
new monitor, etc., and you've got to go fiddle with X11 by hand.

It's down to a point where X11 is probably the only non-weird hardware I've 
had to lay a hand on in a few years now, and it really would be fitting for 
someone to bridge that last remaining gap.
