Video --> Flickers then Stable == What's happening?

Yes, I'm beating a dying horse but...  OK, my video is rock solid now.  Have 
the video drivers changed or I making a wrong assumption?

Everything was stable and then I opened the KDE Control panel and my video 
began to flicker.  After a while, it became stable.  These video events are 
quite beyond my knowledge.

I am throwing this out to the Kubuntu mailing-list...  Why would my video 
change like this?  Is there general opinion that it's my X drivers or a 
failing video?
