True. Adobe is another contemporary giant in this arena, for example. Most
of the giants of yore have been consumed in turn by some other giant, and the
whole thing is a lot like the railroads of yore. There used to be hundreds of
little railroads, and then dozens of bigger railroads, and now only the
anti-trust laws prevent there from being just one, or two. Or toys; look how
many different toys and board games are owned by Hasbro now, with venerable
names like Tonka dragged through the mud.
But it's still fun to blame Microsoft for everything, because everything about
the company just sucks so much. (And hey, I'm speaking as an official
Microsoft Partner. That's a long, and perhaps amusing story. You guys
should see the stuff they send out to their minions. It's a hoot, but I
probably signed something that would put me in jail if I started posting any
of it in public.) (And no, I didn't get the job I was after, and I'm still
driving an 18-wheeler.)
