Well, it was highly technical and clearly beyond the capabilities of the 
members of this list, but, in broad terms, leaving out the quantum 
effects, and recognizing that a full understanding would require 
discussion of the Rhiemann tensor, I can say that the problem had to do 
with a cron backup job which *might* have run without the backup drive 
being mounted, leading to a situation in which a *lot* of stuff was 
written to the main drive, then hidden when the backup drive finally was 
mounted....or something....maybe it had to do with global warming.
