Drive icons on desktop

So the permanently mounted drives only show when you mount a CD? That's weird.

 I have a kind of cognitive dissonance going with my desktop - I pretend it's 
always working and that makes me happy, and then I just never visit it since 
that would ruin the whole warm glow :) I have yet to use a version of KDE 
that did not have bizarre issues with desktops and icons.

If I get an idea, I'll be of more help. I have kind of lost touch with the 
guts of what happens when drives get mounted etc. Something tells me there 
are .desktop files to blame somewhere, perhaps you could look for duplicates?
