X Problems

I have my Laptop hooked up to a external LCD and if i do Fn>F8 with 
Kubuntu to display on ext. LCD the desktop is off
to the left, doing a Auto adj. on ext LCD doesn't help, and if I do 
Fn>F8 again it displays on laptop lcd but that changes resolution and 
the desktop is stretched , hoz. , right and left, I have to logout 
restart X to get my laptop lcd at correct resolution.
I have Fedora on this same laptop and it doesn't give any display 
problems when doing a Fn>F8.
Whats with Kubuntu ?
