Well yes, in the sense that I get a completely different error message :-)
----
In /etc/fstab:
//hpxp/c /hpxp/c cifs defaults,user,auto,bg,guest,uid=n7dr 0 0
[H:~] mount /hpxp/c
mount error: improperly formatted UNC name. /hpxp/c does not begin with \\
or //
No ip address specified and hostname not found
[H:~]
----
I don't know why it says doesn't understand "hpxp" as a hostname:
[H:~] ping hpxp
PING hpxp (192.168.0.244) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from hpxp (192.168.0.244): icmp_seq=1 ttl=128 time=4.02 ms
64 bytes from hpxp (192.168.0.244): icmp_seq=2 ttl=128 time=0.372 ms
----
It's all very odd, because when I said that I has used the smbfs setup for
years I wasn't joking. At least four years and half a dozen machines. I
have no idea why gutsy is behaving differently. Maybe I've forgotten some
simple but necessary step.
