I think you'll be out of luck with audio chat at least with Kopete as it 
doesn't currently support it, I've never used Gaim so can't say.

Regarding the webcams, I've had success with 2 webcams in Kopete on Kubuntu, 
one was a Logitech model (ID 046d:092f) and the other one was IIRC a Trust 
1400. Both of them worked straight out of the box. The Trust really surprised 
me as it cost less than £10!!
