Could you give more info?  What is the last place your screen ends up?  
Can you ctrl<>alt F2 and get to a login screen?  If so login and do this 
command tail -200 /var/log/syslog  and tail -200 /var/log/Xorg.0.log...  
Some of this I am guessing because I don't know where you are getting 
stuck.
