I had the same problem a while back. I blamed it on some
misconfiguration, or damaged file. So, I removed all the packages
related to OOo, then did a "sudo aptitude purge <name of packages>"
I cannot remmeber the name of the packages, as I just did a an apt-cache
search of openoffice.
Afterwards, i did an install with adept, as that was the easier method
and forgot about it until nowthat i see this thread.
My OOo has been working correctly, and fast enough, since.
