Ive several laptops on the go, One runs Slackware 10
with Opera for linux 9 Thats my favorite cos it the last version to show
the actual download speed .
another runs dos 6.22 and wfwgs with opera 3 and Netscape 3
another has Xubuntu with opera 10
another has millenium with opera 9.
Ive tried firefox on most of these and its benefit is it always loads
the page properly.
However its a memory hog and consequently slow on my machines these are
P3 500 and up to 1100..
On the otherhand Opera is the fastest to download , and to switch to
the next url.
My experience is somewhat limited to laptops.
As for email and newsgroups I use thunderbird. on most with the
exception of the dos laptop. There I use the email client in netscape 3.
Interstingly Netscape 3 is for some sites fastst of all Especially for
text .
And Yes Im running an 8mb broadband link with dos drivers where and when
I need them!!
Great fun.
the only limitation of the current opera version is that at some sites
it doesnt like rendering frames. I dont know why. Just once in a while.
