Winmodems are all hit and miss under Linux. I recommend external
modems (even to Windows users) especially if something happens to the
system there isn't a hunt for the driver. That's the worst driver not
to have, since once the network is accesible, you can usually get the
other ones which usually isn't a concern if it's directly supported
under Linux but is a big concern under Windows.
