firefox locking up on certain web sites

It's a 64-bit problem. I was using Kubuntu 64-bit and firefox locked
on gmail.com all the time. On 32-bit kubuntu and 32-bit gentoo it
worked perfectly (more than perfectly, actually, but I'll not
digress).
I don't know how to fix firefox, however, I do know the problem is
related to Java/JavaScript functionality on 64-bit systems (with
64-bit Kubuntu).
