That sounds logical and all, but upgrading my kernel to i386 was
something that _did_ help a lot. Hmm, I wonder if my kernel wasn't
automatically updateed when running dist-upgrade recently?

How does one go about checking what has been changed by apt-get? Is it
possible that apt-get updated my kernel back to generic?
