USB or not isn't really the issue here.  What matters with printers is who 
made them.

Check your model against the database at linuxprinting.org and see what they 
say about it.

If you have to buy a new printer, you're not alone.  I have hooked a lot of 
people up with Linux over the years, and I can't think of a single one of 
them who had a printer that would work with Linux.  I didn't either.  I had 
to buy a new printer too.

Now that most people are on broadband these days, the winprinter issue is the 
main reason people can't get Linux to work on their existing hardware.
