error dpkg

Hi all 
Just a little problem , how do I fix this please 
E ; dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to  
correct the problem
so I can use sudo apt-get again or adept.As I am quite new to this ,easy  
steps would help
