OT: Is Evolution a good email client?

You sure can highlight messages as you want. Try filters. And Kmail can be run 
without Kontact. I really disliked the Integration that Ubuntu trys to push 
on us, but I freed my self of Kontact, so things are as they should be with 
linux, as I want them.
