Got it working :-) Thanks to a post on the kubuntu forums.
You need to edit your xorg.conf file:
<code>
kdesu kate /etc/X11/xorg.conf
</code>
Then add at the very bottom of the file:
<code>
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "0"
EndSection
</code>
You need to hit 'Return' after to create a new line.
Save the file and restart X.
Flash will now work as it should!
