I just had a slight problem with the above.
For the machine directly connected to the printer it worked OK, but to a 
networked machine the KDE print manager (in admin mode) suddenly didn't 
list any drivers at all!
In the end I reinstalled the gutenprint package (I actually used adept 
to uninstall it then installed it again - be careful - it takes out 
'kubuntu-desktop'! which I also had to reinstall); then the KDE print 
manager was able to successfully install the networked printer.
