newbie: dapper: skim and latin characters

I now got scim/skim to work using the wiki-page Thilo Six pointed me at (you 
probably noticed his post in this thread). And now it is working even in kate 
and kwrite.

Though I still don't know how to input German umlauts and other latin 
characters using scim/skim with an English keyboard. Strange.
