newbie: dapper: skim and latin characters

Hi Thilo,

thanks for the pointer. I read though it and finally got scim/skim working as 
the default input method -- even in kate and kwrite.

But I still can't input German umlauts and stuff. I still figure that 
UIM-latin could do this, but I don't know how to use it. Is there a 
description of the input engines somewhere?
