Amarok 1.4 with xine-engine problem

AmaroK 1.4 will not build my collection.  I just have the static 
message, "Please be patient while amaroK scans your collection.  You can 
watch the progress of this activity in the statusbar."

When I go to rescan collect I see the usual percentage increase to 100% 
in the status bar, then nothing, no collection and this static message.

I never had this problem before at all.
