apt-get hassle

Went to do my usual adept upgrade this morning on dapper and got an error.  
The error mentioned "example-content" so I tried to install it separately, 
however, I get the following error:

sudo dpkg -i example-content_11_all.deb
(Reading database ... dpkg: error processing example-content_11_all.deb 
(--install):
 unable to open files list file for package `example-content': Input/output 
error
Errors were encountered while processing:
 example-content_11_all.deb
Processing was halted because there were too many errors. 

Now it doesn't matter what I try to install the same error appears and it 
doesn't matter if i use adept, aptitude, synaptic or dpkg all give the same 
error.
I am at a complete loss as to what to do next!  Anyone help?
