Automating Program Start / Stop

It would be, if that were the case.  However, it's exactly that simple in
KDE.  You need to have a link to ~/.kde/Autostart on your Desktop (I don't
know if Ubuntu does that automatically - but I've always had such a link),
then you can drag any executable to the Autostart folder.
