Pasting from OOo to Koffice

I have a spreasdsheet is saved in ods format that was created in
OpenOffice. When I open it in Koffice it is illegible. So I tried to
copy and paste the contents from OOo to Kspread. What I got was that
every column was squished into Koffice's A column. Rows were seperated
as they should have been.

How can I get this data into Kspread? As the formatting is important,
I don't want to use csv. I thought that ods was supposed to be
compatable between the office suites. That's it's advantage, no?
